Okay, so shortly after posting that I wouldn't be doing any nail polish swatches for a while, I found that I had this colour all photographed but not posted. So here we go!! This was from a set that my dad (bless him) bought me for Christmas and there are actually some amazing polishes in there. This surprised me mostly because my dad bought these from Matalan. Only one (but my favourite) polish here but I will do a full post of all the polishes at some point.
The pictures aren't amazing but I think you can just about see how good this is. It's an orange jelly base with small, round, gold glass flecks. I always get comments when I wear this one. In the light it looks brilliantly golden, but when it gets darker it picks up a little more of a burnt look as the emphasis is taken away from the gold particles. I LOVE THIS POLISH! The formula is mostly good, but I will do a full review on things like that when I swatch and post all the rest of the polishes.

This just shows that you can't judge a book by its cover. This was bought at Matalan, a not exactly top quality clothes shop. I didn't even know that they sold polish. In fact, I personally would never have bought these purely because they came from Matalan. My dad bought them for me though, so I had the privilege of being pleasantly surprised (in most cases).

Change for Nancy's Nails

I realised when I was arranging to go shopping with a few friends the other day that I had no money to buy anything. I have a weakness. If I see makeup at a reasonable price that I like I just have to buy it. Anyway, because of this weakness, I have not had any money to buy new polishes and all of my old ones are looking a little skanky and are not really swatchable.

I am determined, however, to keep posting on this blog. I have a lot of time on my hands since I finished school and I've already started taking pictures. I have so much makeup that I thought you might like reviews and swatches of some of it.

I will continue with polish swatches once I have some money, which should be fairly soon as my birthday is coming up. I may even redo some of my Strictly Fab-u-lous polishes, now that I've learnt a little bit more about swatching.

So, changes for Nancy's Nails, but I think this is a very good change. I love makeup just as much as I love nail polish (possibly more). Can't wait to get started!!

Nancy does makeup!

Hey! Today I thought I'd tell you guys about my Youtube channel. It goes by the name of http://www.youtube.com/nancymakeupify and it's got four makeup tutorials so far and a couple of other videos.

I was into makeup way before I was into nails and all that jazz, but I love taking pictures of my nails and that's why I made this blog. I'd say that my love of nails stemmed from my love of makeup because it was another way I could express myself.

Anyway, if you're interested in seeing me doing makeup or even just hearing what I sound like then take a look.
While I'm here take a look at this gorgeous polish.

17 Lasting Fix in Toasted Almond

You can see brush strokes which isn't ideal but that's the texture of the polish. I really love the colour though it's like a tarnished gold with silver reflections and it's the sort of colour which makes your nails look longer. Added bonus: 17 polishes are cheap. I wouldn't say brilliant quality though. This particular polish takes forever to dry and shortly after taking this photo, they got so dented I had to take it all off. But the colour is beautiful so it's worth a look.

Barry M Instant Nail Effects

I am in love!! I read about these polishes that shatter/crackle and I was really curious to try one out. I heard of some from OPI and China Glaze, so I was going to head down to Sally's to have a look. Only thing is, if you want to go to Sally's in Plymouth, it's right on the outside of city centre so you really have to go out of your way to go there. Anyway, I went into Boots to buy some cleanser before heading off to there. While I was there, I thought I'd take a look at some Barry M polishes because they do some great cremes and I spied sat in the corner, an empty space for this thing called Instant Nail Effects.

The illustration looked a lot like the effect that Shatter polishes give, so I was a bit bummed that it wasn't there. So I was heading for the tills, when I saw, in the Model's Own stand, a bottle of Barry M Instant Nail Effects. I also bought Barry M's Mint Green and Dusky Mauve, so here's a picture of Mint Green with Instant Nail Effects.

Excuse the lighting and my chipped index finger. Look how well it cracks! It works best on cremes but I have had some good results with certain glitter and shimmer polishes. Barry M now have Instant Nail Effects in White, Pink and Blue so I can't wait to try them out. This is a really great and cheap alternative to more expensive brands such as OPI and China Glaze. Check it out!

I'm a failure

I have officially broken my new year's resolution to post at least once every week. I'm sorry. It just wasn't meant to be. I've actually been giving my nails a break recently. I had false nails on just after my last post and my nails always feel terrible after that but I'm pretty sure they've recovered.

Anyway... this is going to count as my post this week because unfortunately I have nothing to show you or rave about a nail product or anything. I've just been really boring but what the hey.

How about I tell you about a great nail dedicated youtube channel I found. Yeah that sounds good. They are amazing and look great but they are always so simple and she usually tells you how you can adapt a design for short nails. Take a look the channel is (I hope this makes a link) http://www.youtube.com/LOVE4NAILS Check it out. Yay for plugging!!

My attempt at water marbling

Okay so back before Christmas I told you about this technique called water marbling. I'm still not amazing at it but I've been practising and I'm pretty happy with what I've ended up with. I love the colour combo here. They were probably two of my least favourite shades in the Strictly collection (purely because I've seen them before) but together they look amazing.

The end wear here is terrible but bare in mind I had been wearing it for 3 days (and had therefore had two baths and a shower) but you can still see how amazing this looks. The colours were Blush and Sizzling and on top (to cover the bubbles that appeared) I applied a light pink glitter polish from Claire's. I loved these nails and was really depressed to have to take them off for school but I will be trying some different combinations this weekend and I may post about that.
I really should either be doing homework or revising for one of my many exams which are going on now but I made a promise and I'm trying to stick to it by posting for you. If you want to see how to do some nails like these type water marbling into youtube and there will be loads of videos.

Strictly Fab-u-lous The Nail Colour Collection

Okay so I said I would post once a week. Failed at the first week. Oh well why don't we start now? That sounds good. All right so, among other things, my mum got me the Strictly Fab-u-lous Nail Set for Christmas and I swatched them last week took all the photos and wore them for a few days and now I am ready to tell you all about them.
The set is split into three sections of four polishes and is supposedly based off of what they may use on the show Strictly Come Dancing although I doubt it.

So first off the Latin section. (index to pinky) Tango, Passionate, Thrilling, Midnight. I LOVE these colours. Tango and Thrilling aren't exactly original but the way they apply is just glorious. If you take the time to apply your nail polish really well then you could easily wear one coat of any of these. I have two coats of each because I'm not at all careful and because their basically Boots own polishes I didn't really expect much from them so I just plastered them on without really thinking about it.
Tango is a beautiful deepish red shimmer packed with tiny particles of glitter and it's not too strokey.
Passionate is most definitely my favourite from the entire set; it's so strange. When I first saw it I thought it was just your standard navy blue shimmery colour but then when I took it into the light it shone purple. It's not what you'd call duochrome because in duochromes you can usually see both colours at once but in Passionate you either see the blue or you see the purple therefore I love it.
Thrilling is a very standard dark green to khaki shimmer but again it has tonnes of little teensy bits of glitter that allow it to apply like a dream and not show the brush strokes.
Midnight pretty much describes itself perfectly. It is a dark blue jelly that appeared black in the pictures I took so I took one with flash as well to show you the blue in it. Then underneath the jelly there are odd twinklings of light blue glitter giving the impression of a starry night. Mignight is really the only one in the collection that applies badly but it is also the only jelly in the collection. It appears very streaky and doesn't cover the nail consistently so you end up with light blue at the top and almost black at the bottom. But it's a lovely colour once you manage to make it look presentable so I guess it makes up for itself.

Ballroom: (index to pinkie) Sparkle, Beautiful, Blush, Sultry. This isn't the best of photography work I know and my nails aren't in the best shape but it'll have to do :/
Sparkle is actually not very sparkly at all and to be honest it's not a very impressive shade. If I wear a colour like this (like a musky lilac) it has to have the opacity and as you can see this doesn't probably my biggest disappointment of the collection.
Beautiful is just that: beautiful. But this photo is a bit of a muck up so you can't see it very well but it's basically a baby pink jelly with loads of multicoloured holographic glitter. As you can see it's not for wearing alone but it is still gorgeous and I think I might end up using it for glittery french.
Blush is a silvery dark lilac shimmer which applies amazingly much like Tango and Thrilling in terms of formula and texture of the colour.
Sultry is a difficult colour to describe but I'm gonna give it a go. I have a very similar colour from 17 called smoked marble and that's pretty much what the colour is: like a smoky marbly grey shimmer type colour. Has the same formula and texture as Tango, Thrilling and Blush.

Salsa: (big toe to little toe) Cha Cha, Sizzling, Strut, Tropical. I am cruddy at painting my toemails but I ran out of fingers and I know my feet are weird (yes, long toes) but let's just talk about the polish.
Cha Cha is an orange creme with corally hints to the colour. It applies well and is nice and opaque but there's not really much else to say it's not exactly unique or exciting.
Sizzling is your standard bright pink creme. Applies well. Nothing else to be said.
Strut....aha some excitement!! This is an acid green creme and I like it a lot. It is unbelievably opaque for a yellow toned colour and it is BRIGHT and daring. Not sure I'd wear it on it's own but it would be good for nail art and water marbling.
Tropical is completely different from the others in this section. It is a greeny blue shimmer with the same lovely consistency as Tango, Thrilling, Blush and Sultry.

I am relatively happy with this collection. I am pleasantly surprised anyway. I wasn't expecting anything special but some of the colours are just amazing. Thank you Mum :) And a bonus is that they water marble really well. I'm currently wearing marbled Blush and Sizzling and I love it. But I'm going to post that picture another time so I have something to post about if I get stuck for ideas.

Lots of love
